About History Department
The Melamora college was established with a view to catering the needs of higher education to the students of the adjacent areas in the year 1987. It was the only institution for the higher education in the TGL and rural area of Golaghat District. With the establishment of the college, the department of History also came into being. The subject of History has been taught as a core subject. The major course in History has been introduced since the session of 2007 and it has got the approval of Dibrugarh University in 2007.
VISION
- To bring an overall improvement in the society by imparting quality higher education (value based and skill based education).
- To make our students responsible, knowledgeable and competent citizens of society.
MISSION
The Dept of History was started with a mission to impart quality higher education for all sections of society especially to the socially,economically,and educationally disadvantaged students of rural areas and TGL(Tea Garden Labours) communities. We aspire to equip students for life, making them not only competent job seekers but also to be self-employed socially committed citizens well equipped with a sense of tolerance and justice by making them aware of their rights and duties for the betterment of the society.

- To arrange for periodic assessment of students’ progression and development.
- To promote quality research and innovative practices.
- To work together with the other stake holders for quality evaluation, promotion and sustenance.
BEST PRACTICES OF THE DEPARTMENT
1.Nurturing the potential of students through a range of practices like organizing academic visits to explore social cultural tradition of those who have not been studied adequately.
- The department organize “Heritage walk” with a view to understand our tangible and intangible heritage. One of the best practices of the department is to take students to Deo Pahar historical hills in Numaligarh. The primary objective of this experimental learning is to sensitize students on issues of social, cultural, religion and environmental importance.
- Adding value to class room teaching and online teaching by involving students in innovative projects, related to developing skills for, history writing, critical thinking, creativity and scientific temper are essentials in the scheme of our teaching.
INNOVATIVE PRACTICE
The Department uses ICT tools including smart class room, Google Meet, Google Classroom and PPT.
DEPARTMENTAL FACILITIES
- Laptop is used for departmental activities.
- The department has its own Library besides the main Library of the college.
- Hand written wall magazine is available in the department.
- Students participate in various Seminars, Group discussions and Workshops.
- Free Wi-Fi facilities
STRENGTH
The faculty members of the Department try to teach the students with dedication. The Departmental Group discussion is arranged to enhance the knowledge of the students.
