ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Education, Melamora Collegewas established in 1987. The Department offers three years’ Bachelor of Arts in Education which comprises of total 6 (six) semesters viz. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th. For imparting the programme based learning experiences, the syllabus of Dibrugarh University is being followed. In terms of End Semester evaluation and grading, the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) prescribed by the Dibrugarh University is being followed. The Department has been immensely successful academically and has produced a lot of meritorious students. A lot of Students after passing from the Department have continued their post graduation studies in different Universities over the years. The Department also arranges many co-curricular activities for the welfare of the students.

MISSION

The Dept of Education was started with a mission to impart quality higher education for all sections of society especially to the socially,economically,and educationally disadvantaged students of rural areas and TGL(Tea Garden Labours) communities. We aspire to equip students for life, making them not only competent job seekers but also to be self-employed socially committed citizens well equipped with a sense of tolerance and justice by making them aware of their rights and duties for the betterment of the society.

  • To create an academic environment for promotion of quality education.
  • To arrange for periodic assessment of students’ progression and development.
  • To promote quality research and innovative practices.
  • To work together with the other stake holders for quality evaluation, promotion and sustenance.

TEACHING METHOD:

Normally, lecture method is used. Digital classroom is used for comprehensive teaching. Apart from this procedure, tutorial classes, Home Assignment, Group Discussion, Seminar, Workshop etc. are also arranged among the students. WhatsApp Group, Google Platform are also used as a method of teaching.

INFRASTRUCTURAL FACILITIES:

LIBRARY :

The central library of the College”GangadharSaikia Libraryis the general need of the students. However, the Department has a small library with few number of subject related books. Some books are bought by the teachers and some are sent by the book publishers as specimen copy. These books are used by the teachers and students.

WALL MAGAZINE:A hand written wall magazine “BODHIDRUM”is published every year.

COMPUTER:Personal Laptop is used in departmental activities.

LABORATORY :

The Department has the amenities of Psychological Laboratory Practical for B.A. Honoursstudents.The Department has following practical facilities…Mirror Drawing (Manual) Appratus, Falling Door Appratus, Alexender Pass Along Test, Kohlar’s Block Design Test, Stop Watch (Digital), etc.

FIELD STUDIES & DEPARTMENTAL TOUR:

Educational Tours & Field Trips provide an opportunity of experiential learning to the students. In order to ensure the maximum benefit, a field trip or an educational tour is organized every year by the Department.Field studies were conducted to create environmental & social awareness and to aware to students how to preserve bio-diversity.

PRESENT FACULTIES:

At present the Department has three full time teachers. All the teachers of the Department are sincerely engaged in academic pursuits and try to create a healthy learning atmosphere.

STRENGTH:

  • Department organizes several student centered curricular, co-curricular, extra-curricular and extension activities for their professional grooming.
  • Good number of books in College library.
  • Fully qualified faculty for UG Course.
  • Career oriented courses for job opportunities.

WEAKNESS:

  • Lack of facilities of educational practical laboratory.
  • Lack of available practical instruments.
  • Lack of separate ICT class for organizing lectures and events.

OPPORTUNITY:

  • With the help of the college, the Department can take initiative to introduce psychology or applied psychology as a subject for UG level students.
  • Opportunity for collaborate learning with other department as well with local college, service to secondary and upper primary level as extended work.
  • To arrange specialized training programmes by the faculty.
  • To arrange more number of FDP/Seminar/Workshop & Conferences.

CHALLENGES:

  • To motivate the students to prepare themselves for higher studies and to take part in competitive examinations of state and national levels.
  • To make the students aware about the utility of UG courses and its learning outcome.
  • To keep pace with the dynamic requirements of Higher Education.

Future Plan of the Department:

  • To develop vocational skills among the students.
  • To develop social awareness among the students.
  • To impart knowledge, skills and information to the students in order to make them self-reliant.
