ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The graceful Department of English was started with the inception of college in 1987. The department offers B. A. General Course.andHonourscourse in English. The Department boasts of alumni who have been well placed in various fields and in Govt. jobs. It aims towards achieving constant excellence.

  • To make our students responsible, knowledgeable and competent citizens of society.

MISSION

The Department of English was started with a mission to impart quality higher education for all sections of society especially to the socially,economically,and educationally disadvantaged students of rural areas and TGL(Tea Garden Labours) communities. We aspire to equip students for life, making them not only competent job seekers but also to be self-employed socially committed citizens well equipped with a sense of tolerance and justice by making them aware of their rights and duties for the betterment of the society.

IN SEMESTER: 10 Marks

(Home Assignment, Attendance, Seminar, Workshop, Group Discussion)

UNIVERSITY ASSESSMENT:

40 Marks ( End Semester)

For Honours Course:

Internal Assessment: 20 Marks

(Home assignment, workshop, seminar, group discussion)

University Assessment: 80 Marks

INNOVATIVE PRACTICE

The Department uses ICT tools including smart classroom, Google Meet, Google Classroom, and PPT.

INFRASTRUCTURAL FACILITIES

* The Department has its own library besides the main library of the college.

*Laptop is used for Departmental activities.

ENRICHMENT  OF THE COURSE

Students participate in various seminars, group discussions, and workshops.

TEACHING METHODS

Different types of teaching methods are adopted to improve student learning in addition to traditional ‘chalk and talk’ method. Special interactive classes, group discussions, question­- answer and demonstration methods are arranged to improve their learning. Special attention is paid to slow learner.

STRENGTH

The faculty members of  the Department try to teach the students with dedication . The Departmental group discussion , project are arranged to enhance the knowledge of the students. The greatest strength of the Department is the teacher-students  intimate relationship that has kept the department strong and alive. The faculty members provide psychological support to the students when needed.

WEAKNESS

Need to improve the  departmental library and lack of digitalization of the departmental.

OPPORTUNITY

The students are always made aware of the wide scope for their future . They are given opportunities to interact with teachers on various topics which would help them to mould their career. Spoken classes are held to improve their English language.
